Assistant Director – Inclusive Learning Services for Children & Education
Salary: £79,387 - £90,482

We are ambitious for children and young people and want the very best outcomes for every child across the borough. This role reports directly to and will deputise for the Director of Children and Education. As the Assistant Director for Inclusive Learning Services, you will progress our ambitions for children and young people and contribute to the strategic development of SEND/Inclusion outcomes for children. You will lead a dedicated team and work across the entire children’s system to improve the life chances of our young people. You will be experienced in delivering high level professional advice to the Council, Cabinet and Elected Members on all associated service areas. As an experienced senior manager you will lead on the strategic management of inclusion, SEND, Fair Access, and Exclusions and provide strategic leadership for operational teams focused upon inclusion, including Educational Psychology, Special Advisory Teachers and Sensory Support.

As the Assistant Director for Education Services, you will progress ambitions for children and young people and contribute to the strategic development of educational outcomes for children. As an experienced senior manager, you will be a former Headteacher with a track record of improvement and strategic planning and you will lead a dedicated team working across the entire children’s system to improve the life chances of our young people across Sandwell. You will be outcomes focused and ensure operational control and development of the service in accordance with Council policy. You will be responsible for: Education across all phases, including Early Years education and childcare, Learning and Advisory Support and the Education of Vulnerable Children.

As the Assistant Director for Legal and Assurance you will lead the council’s in-house legal team to deliver excellent services, providing specialist advice on a range of subject matters from major projects, contracts and procurement through housing, commercial property, civil and criminal litigation. You will also lead the Governance Team and ensure the Council meets its obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. You will have significant experience in motivating and engaging people and will have overall responsibility for the effective management and performance of the service, together with a strong understanding of budget management.
